Keeping up with our kids on social networking sites is getting tougher and tougher. Not only do we have Twitter, Google Plus, Facebook and more – we have our own sites like Linked In that are great for networking.
It’s great to know what sites your kids are participating on and learn about the technology. I made sure my kids ‘friend’ me on all their sites and if I don’t know how to use the site – ask them. Now with teens using social networking as their main form of communication it’s a great way to keep up with their lives! I have gotten lots of updated pictures of my kids from their friends posts. (Don’t forget to watch for Cyber Bullying too)
Over the next few days I’ll try to post a guide to using the basic sites. (I may ask my kid’s what other sites their friends are using, I never hear anything about Second Life anymore)
I am a SAHM/WAHM of three boys ranging in age from 16 to 32. We are working on saving enough for college at the same time as dealing with school and our older independent kids. I author a few blogs, including http://teched4kids.com. I have in the past taught computer information technology classes for the local university and taught workshops for kid's in technology education besides being the Kentucky State FIRST LEGO League Championship Coordinator from 2005 to 2008. I now work as a computer consultant, run a handmade home business, and am available for workshops. Life here is always an adventure!
